One of the most famous amps of all time up against one of the most under-rated amps of all time. The plan was to show the similarities between these two amps, but the video ended up highlighting the differences. Sound recoding is pretty bad. I put a Rhode mic a few feet in front of the amps to try and capture 'what the ear hears', and to not have the sounds skewed by using two different mics. Didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped and I didn't have any time to try something different. My levels are obviously a bit high, sounds OK until I hit the big chords, and there's a lot of clipping when I crank the amps. The Peavey actually sounds amazing cranked like this, the video makes it sound really harsh. Stock speakers and tubes, apart from some JJ's power tubes in the Peavey and I think a Sovtek PI. The Peavey is running on two power tubes instead of the usual four to get that earlier break up on the clean channel. With it's full compliment of tubes the amp has seemingly infinite headroom. I run it like this to get a little grit. Not a great sounding demo, but you get the idea. I especially think this doesn't do the Peavey justice. It sounds great in person. Guitar is an '08 American Standard Strat with Dimarzio Area 58's neck and middle, and Area 61 bridge. Cheers!
