Allen Quinn Jones, better known as A. Quinn or "Prof" Jones, was the principal of Lincoln High School when it opened in Gainesville in 1923. In 1926, under his leadership, Lincoln became only the second African American high school in Florida to receive state accreditation. Prof Jones retired after a thirty-four year tenure as principal of Lincoln, in which time he oversaw the success of many students who went on to become business leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, and professors. His house has recently been turned into a museum which holds copies of a number of SPOHP transcripts relating to Black history in Gainesville, and SPOHP has several interviews with A. Quinn Jones himself, both in the Alachua County (AL) collection, and the Fifth Avenue Blacks (FAB) collection. It is safe to say that few people in this life are remembered with the kind of reverence that the community continues to hold for A. Quinn Jones. This vignette features clips from an interview with A. Quinn Jones in which he discusses how Lincoln High School became the second accredited Black high school in the state of Florida.
